Four Ohio Broadblade Types

Size: All around 1 1/4" long

Provenance: Crooksville, Ohio. Although conjecture, I would bet good money these pieces came from the same site.

Condition: Excellent. Broadblade points are an extremely rare Ohio type. Most are made of Nethers variety Flint Ridge. Nethers is quite possibly the rarest prehistoric Ohio flint type, and the most abundant modern knapper flint type. This is due to the Nether's flint quarry today

being commercially mined for flint. These four examples are prehistoric and I am almost sure all are made of Nethers. Only one has the trademark striping, but I would still call them all as Nethers.

Two Toned Adena

Size: 2 3/8" long

Provenance: I bought this from a roadside farm produce seller about 15 years ago. One of the first handful of pieces I ever bought. He found it in his fields near Waynesville, Ohio.

Condition: Good. I don't know whether to call this hornstone or Flint Ridge material. My gut is Flint Ridge with Hornstone like colors. I was attracted to the nice contrast in the material, and I still am.

Flint Ridge Clovis

Size: 2 1/2" long

Provenance: Found by Andrew Jack in the late 1800's near Xenia, Ohio. I have a picture of Mr. Jack and a nice history letter.

Condition: Good. So you have heard the rumors that Flint Ridge was not used for clovis. Unfortunately, the ancients didn't get the memo. This one is fluted, made with fine Paleo work, just about the highest grade Flint Ridge you will ever see. One ding up near the tip and some rougher areas on the back keep it affordable.

Carroll County Ohio Big Adena Drill

Size: 3 3/4" long x 1 1/2" wide

Provenance: Found by Milo Moore in the late 1800's in Carroll County, Ohio.

Condition: Excellent. Imagine how big this piece was before it was resharpened into its present form. One of the largest Adena bases I have ever seen. I'm calling this one Flint Ridge b/c of the side inclusions that I don't in any of the usual Midwestern grey materials. No damage.

Price: $125

Serrated and Stemmed Kirk

Size: 3 1/4" long x 1" wide

Provenance: Northern Ohio. X: Immke

Condition: Excellent. This piece is extremely thin, with serrations and a unique concave base. Material is a super grade of Mercer with some "bird droppings" adding to the color. One old ear nick keeps it from being big bucks.

Price: $SOLD> THANK YOU>

Size: 3 1/2" long x 1 1/2" wide

Provenance: Lorain County, Ohio. Marked on one side with a very old India ink mark of "6".

Condition: Super. I have seen very few examples of this color scheme in Flint Ridge. I think it is a rare olive green colored chalcedony. It does have the "cloudy" spots like other chalcedony, but not the pale blue/pink colors. This may be part of a larger cache. Good in just about any color frame. It is translucent.

Sonora Flint Blade

Size: 1 7/8" long x 1 3/16" wide

Provenance: Ross County, Ohio.

Condition: Excellent. This piece is made from a highly patinated green/brown/black sonora flint. Fairly unusual for it to travel into Ohio, but it does happen. This piece is thin, and well made. I am not sure what culture to assign it into. Could be Archaic, could be Woodland...

Table Rock Illinois

Size: 2 3/4" long x 1 1/16" wide

Provenance: Morgan County, Illinois. X- Gray Ladassor

Condition: Perfect. I don't collect or sell many Illinois pieces, but this one is really fantastic. Ground base and stem plus it is still extremely deadly. When I hold this one, I think atl-atl dart point all the way. Ridiculous amounts of mineralization.

Price: $SOLD> THANK YOU

Warren County Kentucky Adena

Size: 4 1/16" long x 1 7/16" wide

Provenance: Warren County, Kentucky.

Condition: Excellent. This is a larger size short stem Adena. Some call these Harrison Turkey Tails. One little tip nick and base nick keep it reasonable. Super bullseye pattern in the Hornstone material.
